It's not there yet, but it would be in the "status bar" at the bottom. I'm  
concentrating on OS integration, as users should be notified even without  
opening the web UI.

I like those ideas. But then the initial plan of this feature was to just  
have everything done with as little user intervention as possible. As I  
said I'm currently concentrating on tighter integration with Windows and  
OSX. This doesn't mean the above can't be done. Please file an enhancement  
request for the above so they don't go lost. Thanks!

I'm not sure this feature will help you a lot: the released SC will _not_  
check for nightlies, but only for official releases. Eg. an officially  
released v7.4 would only download an officially released 7.4.x, but _not_  
the nightly 7.4.1.
