So I am hoping to look at this a bit in the coming week. What's there today is 3rd party supported (me....)
There were reservations of including recommended plugins which had not been reviewed for compatibilty by Logitch - hence the current recommended plugin list. I have not noticed updated nominations for this? I am sure a few more people could get svn access to slim's repo to maintain the recommended third party file - there's a single xml defining the plugins and you just need to run the script and check the result back in. (but it should probably be more industial than this) As for the actuall download mechanism/page - I think we need: 1) peridic polling of repos to check for updates to plugins currently installed (question is then how to ask the user to restart after downloading them) 2) better linking of extension downloader to the plugin page (it was implemented entirely separately originally just because it was not agreed for inclusion untill the last minute) On the original point raised by Erland - I'm afraid I've resorted to posting updates to my plugins for Extension Downloader only - this seems to have worked for encouraging people to use it. As we move to a point where authors are not targetting 7.2, I think this is a fair way to go. Clearly we need to make it more obvious how to do it. The other thing I want to add is more maintenance of SP applets via the same mechanism. At present I've not noticed many SP applets in the repos, but the aim would be to encourage people to write and distribute applets via the same mechanism.. -- Triode ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Triode's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63623 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
