We know the SN DNS is working fine server-side, and therefore should work fine for all clients, be they browsers, SBC, SB3, or SBR. There was nothing particularly wrong with SN itself last night, either.
To give more background on this issue, in firmware 60 (and previous), if the "local" DNS servers (as provided by your DHCP server, for example) failed to resolve www.squeezenetwork.com, the firmware would fall back to querying the OpenDNS servers directly to get the answer, as a last-resort workaround for the potential of broken local DNS service. In 61 this fallback was removed (for complicated reasons, it causes us other architectural problems and should not be necessary, as all users should have functioning local DNS or their browsers wouldn't even work). Evidence suggests that some players using r60 and previous were using this fallback when it shouldn't have been warranted, and these failures to connect to SN using firmware 61 are further evidence that you guys were probably relying on the fallback behavior for whatever reason. The thing to figure out at this point, is why on r61 your SBRs are failing to find DNS resolution for www.squeezenetwork.com via your standard local DNS services as advertised by your router's DHCP. Clearly your PCs/browsers aren't having any issue resolving the name using the same DHCP/DNS settings. If one of you having the issue has the technical know-how to observe SBR's DNS traffic with a sniffer in this scenario, it would be immensely valuable. I'm suspecting there's some sort of compatibility issue affecting DNS resolution using certain home network routers with the SBR, but that's just a hunch at this point. Either the DNS addresses being served up by DHCP aren't being seen properly by the SBR, or for some reason there's a protocol issue talking to said DNS servers. -- blblack ------------------------------------------------------------------------ blblack's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11129 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63880 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
