- what Windows version are you using? Windows XP MCE sp3

- what video card & drivers are you using? nvidia GeForce4 MX 440
(microsoft corporation) driver version 6.14.10.5673

- looking at the task manager, do you see squeezeboxcp.exe? Yes

- is squeezeboxcp.exe eating all CPU? No

- is squeezeboxcp.exe using all/a lot of memory? How much? No

- does the control panel at least sometimes work? Yes

During install the cp starts up and you can change settings. Also the
install also starts up a squeezecenter.exe (running as the user). I
changed the user and entered the password for it to run as a service
under and it then started up a second SC running under that user. The
cp froze at that point - I had hit the OK button to save the changes, I
did NOT hit start or anything else in the cp. Then the install FINALLY
(about 5 minutes) popped up the finished message. After another few
minutes the cp program finally shut down. The squeezecenters also had
stopped (probably because 2 of them were running).

I went into the windows services control program and noticed that the
sc service was set to "manual". I changed that to automatic (was set to
automaticly start in the SC CP, by the way).

I went back into the sc cp (while the service was running). A very
long startup delay (about 1 minute). Noticed that the "start
automatically" was still set (even though it had set the service to
manual). The user and password were both blank again. Typed them in
again and hit the OK button. System basically freezes. It took about a
minute to be able to get a right-click response to be able to start up
the task manager. SC CP stays frozen on the screen and the system
performance is very degraded. Also, the cp doesn't appear to be using a
lot of memory (about 59mb) and almost no cpu - no idea what is sucking
up the response time since the task monitor reports about 95% idle.

When the cp finally shut down this last time I noticed that there was
no SC running. The service is again set back to manual. Changed to
automatic again. Starting manually it takes far too long to start up SC
- the windows service cp times out and reports an error even though SC
is still trying. After it timed out it took about another 5 minutes to
finish starting.
