No, no recent changes. The current mechanisms were introduced with 7.0
and have not really changed. Streaming got a complete overhaul in 7.3
but the underlying mechanism remained the same. The default target is
30ms but you can tighten that to 10ms for SB2 and newer players (but not
for SliMP3).

I often listen with a combination of a Boom on the desk, SqueezePlay
(used to be squeezeslave) through the computer speakers on my desk, and
another player via the amp with speakers either side of the desk. At
30ms I can sometimes hear a -sound stage shift- when a resync adjustment
happens, but nothing at all at 10ms.

My original motivation for all the new sync work was to sync a pair of
SliMP3s, and I had them rock solid. I do notice that sometime my SliMP3
starts skipping frames and I think that is a f/w problem wit the unit
itself. When that happens, the only solution is to power-cycle. It can
take a few hours or a couple of weeks to get into this condition.
