If you've only got the pre-installed plugins - best leave well alone! I
was referring to third party plugins (i.e. those you have installed
yourself).  

I would follow Michael's advice of killing the instance of
iexplore.exe, reboot the PC after sorting out the Mcafee issue and see
if that improves things.

Also, what version of IE are you running?
