If you've only got the pre-installed plugins - best leave well alone! I was referring to third party plugins (i.e. those you have installed yourself).
I would follow Michael's advice of killing the instance of iexplore.exe, reboot the PC after sorting out the Mcafee issue and see if that improves things.
