My experiences are that: 1. The scanner doesn't report progress. You have no idea that a scan is running, until it finishes, unless you look in task manager to see if there is another perl task running. Alternatively listen to your box to hear if the HD is chattering :-) 2. The scanner is automatically started when you start up with an empty library (even if you haven't set the correct library path yet).
