This is indeed intentional

Correct. Since SN accounts are free (and private) anyways, the decision
was made that requiring an account helps us guarantee a fairly quick
setup proceedure for users without forcing them to download Squeezebox
Server (they are prompted to do that later on).

Setup will always require an internet connection, at least temporarily.
This also allows us to make sure a user is running the latest firmware
for their device. This is especially important because the firmware
installed at the factory is often very old.

Add REmote Library is only intended for advanced users who are using a
Squeezeplay device remotely (say at your office) and connecting to a
Squeezebox Server IP address that is not local.

If your on your own local network, your Squeezebox Servers should show
up under the My Music menu option.

I understand your thoughts on this ... however after *many* heated
meetings, it was decided that the best user experience for an
out-of-the-box user was to get them to Squeezenetwork first because it
gets them to playing music with as few steps as possible. From there, if
they setup a local Squeezebox Server, they already have a squeezenetwork
account that can be used whenever their computer is unavailable.

I know for users who really only care about their local music, this is
a bit of a longer process, but its the way it is...
