Well, I think the bug should simply be fixed. There's nothing to be said against having "readable" filenames under each OS that supports them (and Windows, Linux, Mac DO).
In one of the latest 7.4 revisions I tested, it worked under Windows but not under Linux, which makes me think it's one of the old character set bugs that crept up again. MusicIP is still the best mixer around (I have the paid-for version with the "power tools"), and it being integrated actually was one of the main reasons for me to buy SqueezeBox equipment.
