I'm pretty sure Logitech wouldn't sue any third party developer for copying the Logitech Public Source licensed code to make old applets available to the Squeezebox users. However, many third party developers really take the licensing seriously and doesn't want to break it. I think we would have a lot more lua applets available if the code was licensed under another license. Would it really be a problem for Logitech to change the license on all applets to something that allows redistribution of modified versions ? I've personally started to give up on Logitech changing the license. I don't want to be pessimistic but with Sean and Dean gone I'm a bit scared that it won't happen anytime soon. I really hope Logitech proves I'm wrong about this, but... I've personally started to at least look at the Logitech Public Source licensed code and write my own based on that. However, looking at the code and write your own based on that is a completely different thing compared to actually copying code or resources directly which the license clearly doesn't permit. Another problem with directly copying things is which license you should use. It feels VERY wrong to license directly copied code or resources under GPL, Apache, BSD without permission from Logitech, and I can't license it under Logitech Public Source because then I'm not allowed to make it available for download. -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info) (Install my plugins through Extension Downloader) (Developer of 'TrackStat, SQLPlayList, DynamicPlayList, Custom Browse, Custom Scan, Custom Skip, Multi Library, Title Switcher and Database Query plugins' (http://wiki.erland.isaksson.info/index.php/Category:SlimServer)) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68077 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
