For your specific desire to SYNC the Squeezebox and Squeezeplayer, maybe a 7.3x version of both would do (don't know where to find them, but someone should post a link shortly).
The 7.4+ builds of Squeezeplay have been broken when synchronizing - the result is no audio output. I can play music from my Receiver, and music from my Squeezeplay app, but as soon as I sync them I get no audio from Squeezeplay until I exit the app. (The IU indcates that the music IS synced correctly - but there is no audio.) I don't currently care about sync between software players and hardware (more interested in sync between hardware players) so it's not a deal-breaker for me.
