I have not come across such a problem before. (two years and four or
five kubuntu upgrades) Some one has slipped up, probably when SBS went
from mysqlite back to mysql. Mysql has a suggested generally used
version at 5.1, and similarly with the client package. SBS should have
been updated as soon as 5.1 became the operational version of mysql and
unfortunately someone has missed it. the error cannot be retrieved for
anyone who has updated any debian type distribution that uses mysql5.1
because the stable version of sbs doesn't get changed every day. the
error was only noticed about 1 week before kubuntu 9.10 came out.

I am sure the problem will be sorted soon for the next stable release.

The message that people should pick up is that they shouldn't go to an
upgrade as soon as it comes out, but wait for the community to work out
the bugs. I often try to hold back and usually fail. In this recent case
I have updated to 9.10 beta and had to reinstall and then try again with
the released version of 9.10 and had to reinstall again. At least SBs
doesn't damage your stored music or your operating system!!
