Are you working with FLAC files? In Mp3tag the simplest way is to use
the 'Extended Tags' dialog. Select one or more tracks on the right-hand
side (the 'File View') and then use Alt+T or the 'Pencil & Paper' icon.
In the Extended Tags view hit the top button 'Add field...', enter
COMPILATION for the field and 1 or 0 for the value. As you get to know
Mp3tag you'll find that you can also add a new column in the File View
for the COMPILATION field, or customize the Tag Panel (on the left) to
add fields.

You should come to find that you don't need to use COMPILATION=0,
except in rare cases. Adding an ALBUMARTIST tag to albums with guest
artists is the best way to keep an album from being marked a
compilation. In fact, the only time you really need a COMPILATION=1 tag
is with compilations consisting of more than one disc.
