I am still not able to get the buildme.sh script to fully build the CPAN
sources, but I could apply gd-jpeg-scaling.patch to the gd-2.0.35
sources and build and install it, followed by GD-Scaling.patch to
GD-2.44, and build, test and install it. Thus, my Linkstation has a
non-standard GD module installed in it, but pre-caching artwork runs a
lot faster now.

I was having trouble compiling Linux::Inotify2, but I got the source
package from the Debian repository and using their patch file and
inotify-syscalls.h inotify.h that come in the source package I could
get it to build (and test) cleanly.

Finally, I was getting some "failed to load module DBI" messages in the
log file, even though scanning was working, so I untarred
DBI-1.608.tar.gz and did a perl Makefile.PL; make test; make install.
This was effectively a downgrade from the DBI I had installed from CPAN
the week before, but it solved the problem as far as killing off those
error messages.

My latest scan timings on this very feeble hardware are as follows:

Code:
--------------------

Scan new files (7135 of 7135) Complete 00:22:52

  Discovering files (1 of 0) Complete 00:00:00

  Pre-caching Artwork (404 of 404) Complete 00:10:34

The server has finished scanning your music collection.
  Total Time: 00:33:26 (Saturday, February 27, 2010 / 11:00 AM)

--------------------

It's going to be much better than this on a SB Touch, so *nice work*
Andy and the team :-)
