This is probably not going to happen but IMHO this is a great example
that doesn't even need any configuration possibilities. Internet radio
apps should just be placed inside of the Internet Radio menu by default
instead of putting them in the separate My Apps menu.
Separating things I've manually selected to install in a specific "My
Apps" menu has never made any sense to me. Things should be structured
based what they are and not based on how you selected to install them.
I'm pretty sure that if Logitech had decided to bundle Shoutcast by
default, it would be placed in the Internet Radio menu, but since they
decided to make it optional it's placed in "My Apps" instead. Compare
the third party "Spotify" plugin which is placed in "Internet Radio"
with Shoutcast or RadioIO, is "Spotify" more internet radio related
than the others ?
It should be easy for Logitech to categorize the few apps available in
the the correct main menus, if this is done correctly I don't see any
need for the end user to move things between menus. The situation would
be different if we had hundreds of apps so Logitech couldn't manage to
categorize them correctly but this isn't the case, is it ? Hiding
things and promoting menus to main menu is a separate issue that solves
other problems, but the categorization should be possible to get correct
from the factory.
If the problem is that users don't find their newly installed apps
unless they are in the "My Apps" menu, this could easily be solved by
just showing them a message where the app have been installed.
As an alternative, put them both in "My Apps" and in "Internet Radio"
and let the user decide which way they like to navigate to them.
By the way, I think what I've said here pretty much was what many beta
testers said when the whole apps concept was introduced.
It would be great to get the thoughts from someone that haven't been
using the Squeezebox'es before the apps concept was introduced. There
is a small risk we just like having internet radio stations in the
"Internet Radio" menu because it worked that way before, maybe there is
something great with the "My Apps" menu which we haven't realized yet ?
