I've seen cases where clear-and-rescan would get hung in some strange way... The past couple of weeks it's been behaving and finishing. When it does this, the inotify scanning breaks. I have to abort the scan that SBS thinks is in progress and sometimes restart SBS. I've also seen cases where inotify doesn't pick up changes but I think that's got something to do with the way I'm copying files over at the moment (the music drive is NFS exported and my netbook copies files there... since inotify's hard work is done by the kernel, I tend to suspect this is a 'feature' of NFS not alerting the inotify tables in the kernel that a file was created, but I don't know how to prove that).
