Jim,
I made no post-firmware install changes.

I'm using SBS exclusively (XP sp3) - it's not SBS anyway - the problem
manifests without SBS running. 
Problem manifests regardless of wi-fi vs ethernet(which is my normal
method).
My installation is really very vanilla...
