IMHO, the big deal with 7.6 is:
- SQLite support (which makes it possible to use same server version
for desktop and built-in server on Touch and also improves the scanning
speed)
- Improved performance of artwork handling
- The UPnP server stuff Andy is working on which probably would make it
possible to use Logitech Revue and other UPnP/DNLA players with SBS.
- Other things I don't remember at the moment

I also hoped for some new API's for third party development for
browsing(onebrowser work) and scanning(third party scanner hooks) and
third party api for Touch Now Playing screen, but I'm honestly not sure
those are going to be included in 7.6. I suppose it depends on if 7.6 is
planned for early 2011 or late 2011.

I'd prefer to get a stable 7.6 pretty soon than have to wait for a 8.0
release 2012 or later. Long release cycles with different API's in beta
and latest stable release is really frustrating from a third party
development perspective, you want to make it possible for people to use
the beta but you still have to support the users that prefer to use the
stable release.

>From a user perspective, the only of the above features that makes any
difference is the UPnP stuff. However, that doesn't make any difference
for people that only have Squeezebox players, it's only useful for
Logitech Revue owners and owners of other UPnP players.

So from a Squeezebox user perspective, I can agree that there isn't
much in 7.6 that you will actually see. Most of the stuff are technical
improvements which are hidden to normal users. Of course, Logitech might
be working on some stuff we don't know about, the resources that haven't
been producing as much as they usually do in the open SBS/SqueezePlay
source code have to be working on something.

I'm not sure what list you are talking about, if you are talking about
the new schema and multi user stuff I think it's time we forget about
that. It's not within the Logitech mass market strategy, they want less
customization options and simpler system not more options and more
complex system.

If you want improved music exploring/discovery features I'm afraid you
will have to switch product or rely on third party development, this
has never been a priority and I'm pretty sure it's not going to be one
any time soon.

For people that accept that they have to rely on third party
development, there are some work in progress in this area. I've no
indication when it's going to be ready for alpha testing but it is
focused on the stuff discussed in this thread:
