In fact, I first installed 7.6 on a borrowed PC under Windows 7, and
then tried to install it also on my PPC Mac under Tiger, without
success.

I could indeed migrate to 10.5 on my PPC Mac, but if sebp's suggested
workaround does indeed solve the problem, I think it could help a
certain number of (not so...) "obsolete" Mac users under Tiger (am I
the only one ?) ! I would be very glad to test it myself... ;)
