Apps from "My Apps" can be added to the main menu without issue. Are you trying to add them from "App Gallery"? In that menu, you choose apps to "install" (which in reality is just attaching an app to your account so it gets added to the my apps menu). Once the app is in My Apps, it can be added to the home menu via an option on the context menu. Just tested this again, still works fine. When you say you compiled a new build from 7.6 trunk, that implies you aren't using a physical squeezebox. What are you building Squeezeplay for, the desktop? It should work fine from there as well.
