No, you don't need an add-on. You need to find the .ini file, which on
a Windows machine is stored at

C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application
Data\MediaMonkey\mediamonkey.ini

Once there, you need to edit the [FilenameMappings] portion of the .ini
file by adding the settings for each Unicode character you want to
convert, one per line.

Through trial and error, I found that you need to use ALL CAPS in
specifying the Unicode characters, with NO SPACES inside them.

I use the unicode character chart at
http://www.utf8-chartable.de/unicode-utf8-table.pl

For example, if you want to change Dvořák to Dvorak you'd need to
add

C599=72
C3A1=61

to the section. The first line converts the Czech r character to
simpler Roman r, and the second line converts the accented a to the
unaccented a.

NOTE THAT YOU HAVE TO DO THIS WHILE MEDIAMONKEY IS NOT OPEN AND THEN
SAVE THE INI FILE BEFORE YOU START START MEDIAMONKEY. MediaMonkey
rewrites the .ini file when it closes, so you need to save your edits
before it opens or else MediaMonkey will overwrite your chnages. MM
only reads the .ini when the program starts.

Once you've made the .ini edits and then saved the .ini file, start MM.
Then select the tracks whose track titles have the extended characters,
and press ctrl-r (or select auto-organize from the menu bar), and MM
will then ask you if you want to move the files to the new locations
and file names, which will now have the simplified ASCII characters.
The tag information will not be changed.

My FilenameMappings section has the following entries to take into
account the characters I've come across in my music collection:

[FilenameMappings]
C3A1=61
C3A5=61
C3A9=65
C3AB=65
C3AD=69
C3AF=69
C3B3=6F
C3B6=6F
C398=4F
C396=4F
C599=72
C3B1=6E
3A=2D
2A=2D
3E=2D
3C=2D
22=27
7C=2D
2F=2D
5C=2D
3F=
C2BF=
19=

This set will take care of these characters: á é í ó ú ñ ř ä ï ö ë
? ¿ Ø Ö : ; < > " / \ |

If you need other characters taken care of, just add new entries to the
list in the .ini file. Be sure that MM isn't open when you do it.

Note finally that playlists will make reference to the filenames of the
tracks, so once you have the .ini file configured, you'll need to use
MM's autoorganize feature to change the names and directory names of
the tracks before you create the playlists.

Have fun!
