I more or less agree with you, but not exactly.
Yes people do prefer a system without PC.
That's why I always insisted on the fact that TinySBS should have been
worked out to be usable.
It could have been done (prevent undesired rescans, allow the scan to
be done with a PC and then used with Touch, etc ...)
It wasn't done.

Normal non geek users won't do what you say.
TinySBS is not usable for normal non geek use, and as you say, PC is
not desired ...
So they simply won't use Squeezeboxes, that's all , that's why
squeezeboxes fail in this market.

Why Linux is a lot bigger among Squeezebox users ?
The answer is so simple ...
It is because non geek users don't use it at all, no need to look for
another explanation.

What could be done for that ?
No need to blame developer team, it woud'nt be fair.
The team is not big enough to develop and test for so many platforms,
and for the mass non geek market.
That's why I say that it would be better to focus on Windows/OSX, and
even forget linux for the moment, if it is necessary to achieve good
Windows/OSX support.

In my opinion the right path is not even there.
Logitech cannot have a team to develop a good, reliable, competitive,
server software acceptable for mass market.
I am not sure they are able to settle a good mysqueezebox.com service
for mass market either.
I would focus on the firmwares, provide some dev toolkit to control
squeezeboxes hardware, make some partnership with softwares like JRiver
for example.
The point is to control Squeezeboxes without any SBS or LMS, but with
Foobar, MediaMonkey, Jriver, etc ... plugins

The only thing which could worked out at Logitech would be a basic
TinySBS to use a Touch without anything else.

Squeezebox hardware is great and highly competitive.
Squeezeboxes software is everything but that.
