By the looks of it, the next release of the Revue firmware won't be 4.0 as I believe 4.0 is being targeted for tablets. I doubt it, but I could be wrong. There is already a leaked build of Honeycomb 3.1 for the Revue, but it's still too raw. I doubt that Logitech is going to release a new hardware version of the Revue because Logitech drastically lowered the price of the existing (very capable) hardware from $249 to $99 because they were not selling them well. The box was starting to get a bad reputation, not because of its hardware, but because of the implementation of GoogleTV left a lot to be desired. There were also rumors that the boxes were being returned back to Logitech from their distribution channels and by a considerable number of users. The problems were also made worse when media content providers started blocking the Chrome browser and flash player in the Revue. In the existing release of the Revue there is no Market, so you can't download anything. You only get updates pushed to the box by Logitech. Some folks have rooted the Android 2.1 version of the box and installed the Market via apk, but the root process requires hardware modification (soldering) and in the end most applications don't run well. With the leaked HC 3.1 release on rooted boxes folks have been able to install and run apps and widgets via the market with some good results. I believe the Market limitations will be removed in the next firmware release of the Revue. In a recent Google developers conference they showed a "future" section of the Market that would be dedicated to GoogleTV apps. In regards to UPnP DLNA, I think Logitech is following market trends. Lots of companies in the hardware media streaming wagon are providing UPnP DLNA servers and clients. Hopefully the Revue will take advantage of other LMS features outside the UPnP DLNA plugin, but so far I have not seen any evidence of that. I also have not heard anything about LMS or Tiny LMS running on the existing or future Revue. The Revue already supports locally attached media (Up to a 2TB NTFS formatted drive) via Logitech Media Player, but in the current incarnation it does not yet support tags. So you get very little info on the Now Playing screen about the currently playing track. No album art... no track, album or artist names. Just the name of the currently playing media file. Again, this is something that might be improved in the next firmware release of the Revue. -- tamanaco ------------------------------------------------------------------------ tamanaco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4620 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86628 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
