Just for my understanding, what's the benefit ?

For the byte counters: disabling plugins can easily save you a nice amount of memory on the base footprint.

Are the plugins using a lot of memory even if they are enabled but not
used or are we talking about some other benefit ?

In my (quick) testing disabling all of them would save about 20MB of memory. Would be interesting to know where it all goes.
