I've done some simple testing and:
1. My Music/Album Artists/Various Artists contains too much, it lists
all compilations but it should really only list the albums ALBUMARTIST
tag has explicitly been set to "Various Artists".
2. My Music/Composers/Various Artists should be removed.
3. My Music/Composers/All Albums should be removed.
I suspect you can solve the "Various Artists" menu by making it possible
to override the variousArtistAutoIdentification preference with a
parameter when calling Slim::Control::Queries::artistsQuery and make
sure it's overridden to 0 when browsing into My Music/Composers or My
Music/Album Artists. The more I think about this I'm starting to wonder
if this change could actually make it possible to even completely remove
the variousArtistAutoIdentification setting and hard code it to 0 in all
cases. Unless I'm missing something the setting basically exists to be
able to select if "My Music/Artists" should show only album artists or
all contributors and with separate main menus this is really not needed
any more.
Also, if you want to make classical users happier, you would make it
possible to set a setting in LMS Settings where the "Composers" menu is
restricted to music in a certain genre, for example "Classical". My
feeling is that classical users would typically want Composers menu to
be restricted to classical music and will use the "Artists" or "Album
Artists" menu if they want to access pop/rock music. It won't solve the
problem for people with gigantic classical library, because then
selecting My Music/Composers/Mozart is going to produce too long list of
albums to be useful, but it's probably going to work better than listing
all pop/rock composers in the same menu. Of course, this could also be a
candidate for a plugin, I suspect the necessary logic is now available
in the Slim::Control::Queries module so it's just a matter of creating a
plugin that adds a "My Music/Classical Composers" menu. This could
actually be preferred as it can also add other stuff which is needed to
make classical music browsing work really good.
