Composers are different from artists. An artist typically release albums
while the work of a composer usually is performed by someone else that
release the album, due to this I don't think a "Various Artists" entry
makes sense in "My Music/Composers". It also doesn't make sense in "My
Music/Album Artists" since that menu by nature is designed to list album
artists and nothing else.
If we want to limit the content of the My Music/Composer menu and remove
irrelevant stuff, we should, as I suggested previously, make it possible
to filter it by one or several genres. This would make it possible for
people to restrict My Music/Composer to classical music while My
Music/Artists and My Music/Album Artists would contain all music.
By making it possible to override the variousArtistAutoIdentification
preference we can make different menus behave differently without having
to have a global preference that affects them all.
I think the variousArtistAutoIdentification preference might still make
sense in "My Music/Artists" menu because people only listening to
rock/pop music are probably not going to want to have composers in that
menu and for the same reason it would also be applicable in "My
Music/Genres/<genre>" menu. The Genres menu is probably the reason why
we can't remove the setting completely because there is a small risk the
"My Music/Genres/<genre>" menu is going to get crowded with composers,
conductors and bands for people interested in pop/rock music where these
contributor roles are pretty uninteresting.
