Well, first of all: you know that I will always want typed information,
so whatever you return needs to be returned as album, artist, track or
genre. To keep the old search logic, to hits could be sent for all of
these categories or alternatively only the overall top hits.
The results should be sorted by relevance. I'm no expert at all in
relevance based search algorithms but out of my head I'd say:
- all capitalization and diacritics should be ignored so the actual
search string is something like "BJORK", in a second step they could
be introduced again to distinguish between similar hits.
- hits in all tags, probably even lyrics or something should be
found.
- there should be a ranking of tags for relevance. If I search for
e.g. tracks (or for the sorting in the list of returned tracks), the
track title should probably rank highest, followed e.g. by main
artist, album, other artists, genre, description, lyrics and so on.
- if no exact hit is made a hit making up a bigger part of the result
ranks higher (so for a search for "angel" a track named "Angel" would
rank higher than "Angel in disguise").
