Oliver, I will say that a raspberry pi with IqAudIO dac board is very good for the money, well worth a try if you want to spend just a small amount.
Allegedly, it is the I/O on the pi that is responsible for what some people perceive as a poor sound. The Cubox is an excellent server/player, although a little more expensive. The thing about these mini-form computers is that it is fun to play with them, just load a different image onto the card and away you go. Anyway, enough thread drift.
