MYSTERY SOLVED. Thanks to all for advice. I don't ever create or use CUE
files, but after removing playlists, double checking file handling
options (as JJ noted) I still didn't get same track count. But then I
did a search in my music directory for *.cue files. And what do you
know, I found a single cue file on a recently ripped CD. I couldn't
figure out how in the world my dbpoweramp rip produced a CUE file (since
it is not set up to do so). But then it came back to me: I used
CueTools to repair that particular CD rip and CueTools created a CUE
file along with the repaired FLAC files. Removed the single CUE file,
re-ran with both 7.8.0 and 7.9.0 and all is identical.

(why the CUE file for a 10 track CD caused the track count to increase
by "3" seems odd, but anyhow, mystery solved). Thanks again for
suggestions.
