Menu's are not that clunky.

Compare changing curve handle types with say - Switching between
Vertex/Edge/Face mode when mesh editing.

Other modelers may comment on this, but by the time I become
proficient at using blender I had Ctrl+Tab+1/2/3 in muscle memory and
used all the time.

I don't see why curve handle switching is more important then mesh
vert/edge/face switching, to the point where good default keys are
dropped (hide/unhide).
This is of course subjective but IMHO  the current keys are not
memorable, I just hit different modifier keys with H until I got what
I wanted.

Now you need to add a key to hide/unhide which is different to the
rest of Blender.

Is it just Ton who makes these decisions now?, who is the module
owner(s) for this area?
