I have been using this and I agree that it I an awesome tool. I think the hotkey is fine as it is (F) as it is really just an extension of the fill tool. Also changing the hotkey would degrade the current workflow as the user would have to move between 2 keys rather than just hovering over F. Paul said on BA that he was getting 500 polys an hour with the current system, which is amazing, so I really don't think we can provide a more optimised hotkey or anything.
The tool itself isnt that unpredictable really...it just requires that you learn how it works (In some cases it will create a face based on mouse position etc.).
