Yes agree, I was thinking in something, as you said, as “under construction” to get a visual feedback. We can change during the development and use it to show new features.
IMHO, from users point of view, they will "feel" are using a new version, not a “bug fixing” version of 2.78 and this will communicate 2.8 is not a simple improvement, but a new “experience”. Only a concern about space for these images in GIT.
