Parthenon was a very polarizing game in our group. I enjoyed the game, but many of the group were disenchanted with the high amount of luck that could destroy your hard work (similar to Gloria Mundi, but not as bad as that game).
When you ship goods you face random events at sea that could cause you to lose your entire cargo, which means you have wasted several turns for no return. However, it is possible to alleviate the dangers by spending some time buying the correct protection against the dangers at sea, but while you are about the job of being safe, your opponents might just sail a ship full of cargo out without any help and get lucky and not lose anything. So it is a constant struggle between risk and reward, and the lucky can win the game. Overall the game's production value is good, and the civilization like mechanic of building various parts of your city to get certain benefits was very appealing.
