A really good game that plays solo and isn't merely "not great" with opponents would be Race for the Galaxy with the Gathering Storm expansion.
I hardly "tore into" the OP. Jesus Christ, people. And it's not like I don't know what I'm talking about w.r.t. Runebound. I owned it for years and everybody got sick of it after one or two games.
