Wow, It was sheer luck that I noticed this post and it actually talks about the
ONE game I still play (Well okay Descent too when we have time to continue the
campaign but still that's rare that we're all free...) ANYwho I think the
decks that added the most our gaming has to be the Traps one for sure, The
runes one we love but many of the "Hardcore" may say it's unbalanced, I don't
care we only play for fun and love balancing whether we want to move or power
our runes, since Runebound for us, is essentially a racing and who has the most
guts game, this really can alter our strategies some times. So here is my list
in order of "WTIFCness*": 1. Traps and Terrors (Challenges), 2. Rituals and
Runes (Items and Allies) 3. Walkers of the Wild (Items and Allies) Everybody
loves a Ranger! 4. Shadows of Margath (Challenges)
Now for the truth. I've given up most board games except for this and Descent
just due to having to pick my favorites and ditch the rest of the hobby, no
it's not sad, I could honestly have only these two games to play and I'm great
with that. Then again I also don't have to grab a box of tissues and a
sedative whenever BBG goes down. Again. (Apparently us all getting together
for Marvel Heroes is one of the signs of the Apocalypse and best avoided.
Usually because everyone would rather play Runebound or Descent.) So this
honest attempt to seriously reply comes from someone who is REALLY biased about
this game. I have, in the two years I have owned it, picked up all of the
small box expansions except for the ones that change the end game and I have
only two of the character decks and one large expansion: the Sands of Al Kalim
all of which I feel have only added to what, for us, has been a whole lot of
fun. The jury's out on the character decks because as a freind pointed out:
"If I wanted to get that in depth about my character, I would have said yes to
a game of Descent." Ouch. Good point.
Let me give you a tip if you DO get all the Item decks. Form five stacks and
alternate which one is "active" using a counter placed on top of it to indicate
the "active" stacks. Your fingers and your friends will thank us for this one!
Yes your market stack will be as bloated as a list of congressional earmarks
but it's worth it!
I hope this was helpful, have fun storming the....er...Margath! (Or writing
your own Legend!)
