You haven't discovered the full joys of BGG yet. BGG is extremely informative and useful for the things you describe, but if it was only an informative site it would only be average. It is the community that makes BGG truly great. Spend some time in geeklists, forums, etc. and eventually you'll see why people get so worked up when they can't get their "fix".
