Yes they are thicker and more durable, but that thickness isn't necessarily always a good thing. For instance, if I had Sentinels of the Multiverse sleeved with premium sleeves, there is no way I'd be able to fit them all back in the box. I use Mayday regular green, and they fit much more snugly and are easier to store.
