Given the absurd cost of figures and the highly limited range of figures available I really do think the best way of getting into Blood Bowl is to make your own teams. Come up with a nice, attractive and functional team and you'll be able to expand it and add more teams easily and cheaply.
I have 22 complete (16+ player) teams, and all the star players, and I'm loving the freedom to pair up any of the available teams and introduce other people to the game.
