This is probably a vagary of internet-enabled disk images, which are a  
pet peeve of mine (and I regret using them for BibDesk).  You can  
change Safari's download behavior and handling of disk images via Disk  
Utility's preferences (of course!).  I prefer to open images and copy  
their contents manually, but some people find that confusing.
