I agree with both of them, z39.50 is probably the most useful new function
to BibDesk and deserves some improvement.
Why not use default pattern matching. Advanced users can have a mask that
lets you create custom fields or sets of custom fields. This way you can
apply the same set of rules to databases that, for example, use this
American standard. For other dbs users can specify rules according to their
needs. After all, most of the fields seem to be quite straight forward in
their pattern. If you don't want to include it into the GUI (after all you
may have usability doubts) please leave it optionally open to the user to
add fields to a plist search file.
