Yes, we use NFS, yes it is flaky and required some hacks, which is one of the reasons we mount it to /home (the real mount point, btw, is somewhere in /private/var/autmount, if that makes any difference). We are going to switch our local computers to Leopard soon, and the automounting works completely differently there and also better (so I was told). You understood me correctly, but I described it a bit wrong: the symlink goes to nfs:/home/ourgroupfolder/papers which (I think) is on the same partition, not a different one. I am not sure, though.
