Caching was added in 1.3.13, IIRC. File content search has been around for a long time (well before Papers came on the scene): froude:bibdesk-clean amaxwell$ svn log BDSKFileContentSearchController.m [...] r3693 | amaxwell | 2005-10-06 22:44:04 -0700 (Thu, 06 Oct 2005) | 4 lines Add content searching of all Local-Url files in the frontmost document.
