Sorry, I guess there is a misunderstanding
My request for private instructions was to avoid to bother all of the experts with something that might be considered simple ore not so important. I am not seeking private attention for what you have maybe misunderstood in consideration of my poor written english. Thanks again (and let's try a bit more patience with a 47 yo cardiologist)

Why on private email? This is a learning forum. If the instructions
that Christiaan gave were unclear fair enough, but just saying you
don't understand puts all the onus on someone else to work out which
step you might be having trouble with. At least work through the
instructions and explain which part didn't make sense (and what you
tried as you tried to make sense of it).

Hell, make a screencast that shows the steps not working, put a little
effort in and you'll get a lot back.

Just don't act as though private instructions tailored just to you are
the point of the list.

Sorry Christiaan
I get to understand your theoretical explanation but probably you're
just a bit too concise for practical purposes. I.e.: could you give
me step by step instructions on my private email if you have some
spare time?
thanks

I understand what you mean but I don't know how to do that

You understand or you don't. You don't know how to do what?

Be aware that Database Find & Replace works on the literal
expression in the field. So I guess this particular name is not
included exactly in this form, perhaps as "F. White" instead. The
best way to fix a name is probably to look it up in any item,
double-click the name in the little name table in the detail
window. You then get a window for that author, where you can
change the name for all publications that contain it. You can
also choose Author as the grouping field, and edit the name in
the group table.

Hi!
I am trying to replace a wrong first name initial in the author
field of my database, with no success.
Example
White, F. and Black, R and Doe, J. and Harris, B.
I'd like to change the F.
My steps:
edit-find-database find and replace.
field: author
find: White, F.
replace: White, G

no success (it says nothing found)
thanks
