The answer to this is yes, definitely. I routinely worked with 3000+  
entry bibs, sometimes two at a time, on my old iBook G4, and there was  
no slowdown or any other problem. I ran an applescript on everything  
in one of those bibs to downcase titles, though, and it took 20 to 30  
mins, but amazingly, with no problems.

This was with BD from at least a year or two ago, though, on Tiger, so  
I hope this still applies.

Still a lot of other more difficult questions you asked, but at least  
I can answer this one just now.
