While "solved" is not particularly the right word for just resaving it on my home PowerBook after editing it, and reopening it on the work iMac. Strange. It might either have to do with the file (which has not changed apart from my additions), or - more likely - with something that our server admins might have changed. I did not even notify them (probably someone from my university silently reading this list as well ;-)), but now everything works as expected. Sorry for the hassle, still stumped, but happy.
