By "throws an error" do you mean an alert dialog is displayed, or a message
printed over the TeX preview itself?  I assume the latter...

This occurs when one of the child processes returns a nonzero exit status.
In this case, it's probably latex2rtf, which is used to generate a rich text
version of the citation.  If so, you can ignore it.
