Hi,

Occasionally, I need to search my publications by their Cite Keys, which are autogenerated with hyphens (e.g. mccra-maxwe-hofma-etal04a- bgamyb).

Trouble is, when I search for "smith-adams" in the Quick Search field, and I ask for matches in "Any Field", BibDesk returns all publications that have "smith" AND "adams" substrings, and not only the publications that contain the hyphenated query.

Why is the hyphen treated as a space/AND? I could not find an answer in the help sections on Quick Search or in the Advanced Search Options.

Next, I investigated the Database Find and Replace tool. Hyphenated queries work when I search the "Abstract" field. But, oddly enough, no results are returned when I search for an existing hyphenated cite key (e.g. smith-adams) with the "Cite Key" field selected.

Puzzled ...

Thanks in advance for your help,

Stuart Andrews
