I guess this should could be easily fixed as in my abbrevTemplate,
which uses the editors if no authors are provided (the standard in
bibtex book styles).

Actually, the last two examples are not so much a fault of the
template, but of the (IMHO stupid) name format common in medical
sciences. It's why I find the format incredulous (I had a hard time
believing anyone had ever invented this as a standard, let alone
journals demanding it). I would strongly oppose it in a default
template for BibDesk.
