Sorry to respond here instead of sourceforge, but sourceforge appears to have a bug that makes it impossible to comment on something (perhaps when it's closed?). Arrgh!
The autofile bug I reported (removing slashes from keywords) is a bug, not a bugfix. Back in 2005 there was a thread on leaving them in to create a directory structure: https://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=0cf33b8854b826e0c7be92b50c2bd625%40weizmann.ac.il&forum_name=bibdesk-users See the thread for May 31, 2005 if that link doesn't work. In any case, since 2005 autofile has interpreted slashes in keywords to be interpreted as creating a directory structure.
