Yep, that must be the reason, I use indeed the French localization when 
available.

Perhaps '0' and '1' would be more useful for 'not read' and 'read'?

I don't agree with you concerning localizations, though I understand that they 
complicate things. I think they extend the audience of the program. I would use 
a Catalan or a Spanish locale version if I had one handy (I started to work on 
Spanish localization, but I've been kind of overloaded lately) I hope you don't 
abandon localization...
